Here's some pics from the show that some nice person was nice enough to put on the net.

Also includes some pictures of some band called the flaming lips . . .
How many songs from Quebec were performed? I only remember Captain, but thought maybe I was mistaken.
Yeah great show - - - Baby Bitch!
Thanks,

Re: WEEEEEEEEEN rocked BERKELEEEY
Sat, August 5, 2006 - 5:54 PMShit yeah they were fucking ON! I think the crowd was a little weary from the hot sun (or perhaps that and the dissonant geetar screeching and primal screams of Go! Team) so there wasn't that usualy nutbag electricity I am so used to in the audience (except for up front in the pit - did anyone else notice Pig Helmet guy? He was my favorite, with Dinosaur Man being a close second.) Nothing like a good Spinal and AIDS to loosen an uncertain afternoon crowd, right? -

Re: WEEEEEEEEEN rocked BERKELEEEY
Sat, August 5, 2006 - 10:19 PMI know this is a Ween tribe, but since you asked...
After the cracked vibe that is the Ween experience, feeling the warm vibe of the The Flaming Lips was so nice and bouncey. I hadn't seen them since Vegoose and while Wayne's human hamster ball made it's typically joyous appearance, I was psyched the was was quite a different show to enjoy. I am so so glad that they have aged as well as they have and instead of trying to cling to the way they once were, they take what they have been and what they are now in a way that is so much goddamned fun without being vapid and phoney. I dig.
I'd say Spoonful Weighs a Ton and YeahYeahYeah were my highpoints. The crowd's energy was so great. Wayne is just a magnetic kinda guy. The mood was just right for making new friends and taking your guard down to complete strangers. It is funny how they have that universal effect on me whenver I see them. I feel like I owe it to this that my wife and I made a new girlfriend that night who has been nothing short of awesome. Good bands and good times attract good people. What more can be said!
Joy.

Yes, it's a ween tribe, but I think we can talk about the supporting bands. or headlining bands.
Flaming lips were the best band i'd ever seen live until I saw ween, so to me it matters. Then the lips went awry with their Soft Bulliten tour. And I'd refused to see them since. Though I wanted to when they backed Beck and opened. It looks like they got better with the tape loop show, in the fearless freaks movie and reports I've heard.
It would have been cool if they called themselves the mutilated lips, though.
Thanks again.

Re: WEEEEEEEEEN rocked BERKELEEEY
Sat, August 5, 2006 - 11:33 PMHi Shamus, if you mean that show where the Lips opened for Beck a the Paramount a few years back, I will report that it was FANTASTIC. It got really silly and I found the sound/visual/bunnies-with-flashlights was all in perfect harmony. Seriously though, what kicked me over the edge to loving them was at Vegoose. The energy was inescapably kinetic, like no other show I have been to that I can remember up to that point. But... as if life was ready zig my last zag... there was Ween the next night. Seeing them at The Joynt on Halloween no less was what made me remember what it was I came to get bugged out on at a rock show for. Maybe it was the fact that I was dressed like a pirate and have never felt more appropriately garbed before in my life. Or it might be something that I ate. In any case, tt was that show that my wife and I looked each other in the eye and said at the exact same time "WEEN IS THE FUCKING BEST BAND". It was kinda creepy, but in that good way, ya know? So that is why I am here I guess. Now you know. -M
