couldn't taste the taste, couldn't waste the waste --- clearly a reference to "can u taste the waste" off the pod; the line basically means, "i wasn't with it"
as for the more central question, does "chocolate town" refer to anal sex? while I wouldn't put it past ween to discuss anything at all, certainly George Clinton would take umbrage at the thought that this was the meaning of the reference (he was singing about Chocolate City a long, long, long time ago.... )
i admit i am speculating, but i think 'chocolate town' in this context has more to do with the live album 'painting the town brown' and the line from 'mutilated lips' that says, 'everything is turning brown' -- namely, the reference is not so much to the act of anal penetration specifically so much as to fecal matter in general; in this case, probably the act of spreading the feces around; flinging it at the world, as it may be.
but who knows.... maybe it's about the edible chocolates after all. -

think about it:
'couldn't feel the waste that i was wasting'
(a more projectile image:) 'scrape my guts off of the ceiling'
if you listen to the song again with that in mind it all falls into place!

Mon, August 4, 2008 - 3:11 PMI just read everyone's posts. Did it really not occur to anyone that maybe they really just meant Hershey, PA which is only about 2 hours from New Hope? They do have songs about Pennsylvania towns on other albums. They probably have other meanings too in the song, but I'm sure Hershey has SOMETHING to do with it. After all, it really is Chocolate town. -
