Check out Okay

ween fans:

There's a guy in Fremont, CA, named Marty Anderson, who records under the name of Okay. He released two discs last year on the same day, High Road and Low Road, that he recorded in his house. His croak of a voice reminds me a lot of ween and the Frogs. His strange pop song sensibility reminds me a lot of Ween, with frogs, grandaddy, and flaming lips thrown in there. It is infectious and hypnotic.

Both albums are good; I like _low road_ much more at the moment.

There are clips of the music out there, so you can tty and buy. Amaxon is one place to look. It's better than the clips would indicate. Check that stuff out.

Funny you should mention Okay. I was on www.pandora.com (which you should check out- very interesting concept) and I searched for music that is similar to Ween, and Okay was one of the first ones to come up. What a great sound. But I had no idea he was in Fremont! Hm, I should drive over there and say hey.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

Marty used to be elsewhere in the bay area. Oakland, I think. And he was fronting the band Dilute. I've checked out Dilute sound clips and I have to buy their output, as they remind me of Thinking Fellers Union Local 282, which is one of my favorites. And he did a collaboration with some other musicians under the name Howard Hello, or something like that. I'll buy that as well.

Marty has a bad version of Crohn's disease, so he can't play out anymore, and had to move back to his parent's house in Fremont. He's supposedly house bound and on an IV. Last I heard, they were trying to put together a showcase show or two that he could handle in the bay area. But I haven't heard that they actually happened. so keep your eye out.

I would drive down there (from seattle) for an okay show. I've done it in the past for Thinking Fellers, though Ween was playing the same week., so I got to see a lot of both.
